Empress Teishi (藤原定子, Fujiwara no Teishi/Sadako, 977 – 1001) was an empress consort of Emperor Ichijo of Japan during the Heian period.
Lineage and Family: She was the daughter of the powerful regent Fujiwara no Michitaka and the older sister of Fujiwara no Korechika. Her prominent family ensured her influence in the court. Family
Empress Consort: Teishi entered the court at a young age and became Emperor Ichijo's first empress in 990. She was highly favored by the Emperor, which caused considerable jealousy and political maneuvering within the court.
Courtly Life: Teishi's court was known for its refined atmosphere and its patronage of the arts. She was a patron of the celebrated author Sei Shonagon, who served as a lady-in-waiting and immortalized Teishi and her court in The Pillow Book (Makura no Soshi). The%20Pillow%20Book
